Hypocalymma Robustum: Rare and outstandingly attractive. Family native to western Australia with Robustum very rare in NZ. Bushes have a gentle weeping habit and a leaf structure similar to Boronia or Thryptomene with small Manuka-like flowers opening from the tip downwards. The buds are deep rose pink and pale through to light pink and white with age giving each stem a variety of colours. Requires similar growing conditions to Protea and Leucadendron. Well drained soil, no fertilizer and a slightly acid soil is best. Semi shade to full sun and relatively frost hardy once established. Flowering early spring to midsummer. 1.5 x 1.5m. |

Telopea: The Australian Waratah is not difficult to grow if its natural conditions are observed. Best suited to well drained arid conditions, plenty of wind and very little care apart from pruning. Can be grown as a specimen tree [ 5-6m ] or shrub depending on whether the blooms are picked. Brilliant flowers about 15-20cm diameter with unfolding “pincushion” stamens produced mid-September to mid-October. Available in Burgundy, Red, Pink and White. |

Grevillea
This genus of the Proteaceae comprises hundreds of species, sub-species and cultivars over a range of growth habits from prostrate groundcovers through dense shrubs to trees and flower colours from white through pink, orange and yellow to red.
